Toddlers - Where Kids Learn through Play!
Play-based learning encourages active learning - using their brains in different ways - this enables cognitive and social growth in young children.
The aim of our daily activities is to expose our kids to a variety of experiences and ideas to widen their general knowledge and also to ensure they reach their development milestones while enjoying the process.
What it means to Learn through Play at Sprokiesland:
Each day we have an art activity or clay playing activity planned around the theme. All the activities are planned and structured to assist with their Personal, Emotional, Social and Motor Development, as well as growing their Math and Language skills.
Morning Ring - We discuss the weather and date each day and then continue with our discussion around the theme. We sit down and chat about the theme, not to only learn more about the topic, but by having conversations and group discussions where they are exposed to situations where they gain valuable communication skills to enhance their social and verbal skills. Not only do they learn more about a topic, they learn how to interact with others.
Art Activities - These are planned that over the span of one week, the kids have the opportunity to draw, colour, tear, cut, paste, paint and work with clay.
Rhyme / Song - We love singing, dancing and reading or listening to stories and have a time set aside each day for this.
Gross Motor Development - They spend time inside or outside each day, using ride-on's, hoola hoops, sand and water play, stilts, jumping ropes, obstacles courses and much more. We also ensure that we include concepts such as big and small, etc, into our activities.
Imaginative Play - We allow for enough time each day to play dress-up, listen to stories, do construction with blocks and gears and cooking, and we love using different materials, even mud!
We have loads of puzzles and educational games which are also used during freeplay times.
